Town Hall Updates - December 2025

Hello, and Happy 2nd-to-last Friday of the semester! I can't believe it's only a few weeks until the end of the year and we'll be saying Happy New Year!

As you are all completing the Fall Semester, IT and IR will be ramping up to take care of Spring Semester readiness! We have many tasks we want to take care of during the winter break.

Spring Semester Readiness: We'll prepare classrooms for the Spring Semester and ensure the software is up to date, including the requested specialized software changes (for which there is a service form in our portal) and other software updates. We'll perform security updates on all of our computers, wipe down all computers in the labs, classrooms, and instructor stations, and perform preventative maintenance on our large copiers.

Student Loaner Distribution: Devices will be distributed beginning January 5, and for that week and the first week of school, we will work with our students to schedule laptop pickups.

Service Portal Updates: We'll be updating our Service Portal (https://services.saintpaul.edu), including adding the notes from today's Town Hall IT updates to the News and Announcements section. We also have a new section under SPC Student Resources called HOW TO... Student Video Instructions for the most commonly requested tech support questions. The highlight of these videos is that, in addition to being in English, they are also presented in multiple languages, translated by our student employees. We are continuing to improve our library of IT resources based on the types of requests we receive from our Saint Paul College community.

Security Updates: The network team will be performing security updates on our servers this weekend, and you will see updates coming across your computers as well. It will look like Ivanti Neurons. Please make sure that when you see this update on your college-provided computer, you run it as soon as you can, as these coincide with Patch Tuesday (the 2nd Tuesday of the Month). When they are off-cycle, it's usually because they are critical updates! We'll use the service portal to share additional IT Updates.

Data and Analytics Reporting: The Data Services and IR team continue to support the college by fulfilling data and analytics requests. We have completed the inventory of dashboards, paginated reports, student and employee data life cycles, and data extracts. We are now working on reviewing the frequency and utilization of these requests. The catalog we are building will help us determine which metrics we need to continue providing, sunset, and ramp up. Additionally, this work will be essential when we onboard our new Director of Data Services and Institutional Analytics and Institutional Research and Compliance Administrator.

Staffing Updates: These are in the final stages of the search process. In the New Year, we will be posting the Director of User Services and a couple of other IT roles.

On behalf of all of us in IT and IR, thank you for a fantastic fall semester! Have a wonderful finals week, happy holidays, and happy new year!
