Dear Colleagues,
The IT department has been busy this summer with several projects and updates. The long-awaited computer updates, printers, and Service Portal changes are now being implemented, and we have several details to share. The information below will be brief. For more details about the changes we have made, please refer to the accompanying knowledge article or service update.
Software and Hardware Standards
As part of the lifecycle and inventory project, the Information Technology department has collaborated closely with the CATT and Technology Committee to develop software and hardware standards, ensuring consistency across the college. These standards help reduce the number of types of equipment IT technicians have to support, allowing the department to stock peripheral equipment and make it readily available. Additionally, the increased transparency that standardization affords the department enables us to become increasingly proficient in the products and services we provide to the college and our stakeholders. Please reference the document > Saint Paul College Hardware and Software Standards < for a complete list of standards and peripherals.
Service Portal Updates
The Technology Services Portal (https://services.saintpaul.edu) consolidates services, knowledge base articles, news, announcements, and notifications from Saint Paul College and MinnState in one convenient location. Bookmark the site for easy access and favorite most frequently referenced articles, categories and services. The most recent Service Requests include:
Windows Update – Dell Computers
On July 2, the Service Desk sent emails to recipients who were keeping their Dell computers and getting a Windows 11 Update-in-Place. The email is posted in the News and Announcements section.
Classrooms that were updated to Windows 11 will be reimaged and the work will be completed by August 15. A Service Desk technician will contact faculty members who have previously used course-specific software to verify that the correct versions are installed on their computers. For more information about the specific classrooms and software installed, please refer to: Dell Computer Classrooms - Updated to Windows 11 (Reimage).
New Computers – Lenovo
We have had to push back the delivery of our Lenovo devices to early August, which impacts when employees can swap their devices. Employees receiving new computers will be emailed separately with information on scheduling a time to pick up and set up their new devices. In the meantime, please back up your computer documents using the instructions provided in the instructions: Backup Computer using OneDrive
Classrooms that will receive new computers will be prioritized once the computers arrive. For more information about the specific classrooms that are receiving new computers, please refer to: Lenovo Computer Classrooms - Computer Replacements
Printer Replacements August 5 – 7
The HP and Ricoh printers will be replaced (or removed) the week of August 5, with training scheduled August 7. A repeat training session will be scheduled the week of August 20, when faculty and seasonal staff return. Adjustments were made to the original list (shared in October 2024). For the list of printer updates, please reference the shared document:
