Dear Colleagues,

To support our campus-wide security and performance goals, all Windows 10 devices must be upgraded to Windows 11 by October 1, 2025. After October 14, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, putting college data and your work at risk.

Our records indicate that your computer must receive this upgrade, and we are offering you two options to complete the upgrade. With your upgrade you will receive Windows 11, Office 365 (desktop application) and other updated standard software. Refer to the article - 5/14/2025: Summer Updates - Computers and Printers for information regarding the upgrades/updates.

Step 1: (Regardless of which upgrade option you select) Backup your documents and data! Check out our help article on how to back up your computer. Additional information will be posted on our News and Announcements page. (Subscribe so you are notified when new information is posted!)

Step 2: Decide whether you want to upgrade your computer at your convenience or schedule an upgrade with IT.

๐Ÿ” Option 1: Upgrade via Software Center

You can install Windows 11 yourself at your convenience.

  • If remote, be sure to connect to the VPN.
  • Find the Software Center on your device by clicking the Windows icon and typing Software Center.
  • Look for Windows 11 Upgrade and begin the installation. Within one hour, the computer will become unavailable to use as the upgrade installs. This upgrade process can take up to three hours to complete. IT has a limited number of loaner machines- if you need to borrow one during this upgrade, swing by the service desk.
  • This process will reboot your machine multiple times.
  • Once the process is completed, you will see a bluescreen with the date and time on it. Hit any key on the keyboard to go to the login page and login as you normally do.

๐Ÿงพ Option 2: Drop Off Your Device at the Service Desk

  • Schedule a time for IT to complete this upgrade
  • At the time of your appointment, bring your machine to the campus service desk.
  • This upgrade process can take up to three hours to complete. (Devices dropped off after 1 pm can be picked up the following business day).
  • IT has a limited number of loaner machines - if you need to borrow one during this upgrade, you can take it when you drop off your machine. Be prepared to spend a few minutes with a technician to configure your loaner so you can use it when your primary computer is being updated.
  • When your computer is completed, we will notify you that it is ready to be picked up.

If you do not upgrade or schedule your update by October 1, your device will be automatically upgraded, or access may be restricted.

If you have questions, please contact the Service Desk. Thank you for helping keep our systems secure and supported!
