Before You Upgrade: 

  • Plan ahead:

    • Plan to start the upgrade at the end of your workday to minimize disruption of access. For faster and improved results, we recommend upgrading on campus. 

    • The upgrade may take anywhere from 1-5 hours. 

      • During the first 30 minutes - 1 hour you can still use your device. At some point during this time the device will force reboot. 

      • Assure you are not working on important documents that haven't been saved prior to beginning your upgrade.

    • Connect your laptop to power.

      • If on-campus, make sure your laptop is connected to it's docking station and connected via Ethernet.

      • If off-campus, connect your device to VPN.

  • Expect computer restarts:

    • Your computer may restart several times during the upgrade installation process. It may restart a few times after you've completed your upgrade as well. 

  •  Save your work:

    • Save everything you are working on and close all open applications on your computer before you start the upgrade.

    • Sync your folders to OneDrive to backup your data.

  •  Export your bookmarks:

*** This process upgrades your device from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and installs Office 365. 


Steps:

Start your upgrade:
 Once you’re ready to upgrade your Saint Paul College issued device, complete the following steps:
 
1.    Open Software Center by clicking the Windows key / button and search by typing Software Center.

2.    From the left side menu, select Operating Systems and then select Windows 11 In Place***

3.    Click on the Install button.

4.    A new window will appear. Click the Install button to begin the update.

5.    Expect your computer to restart several times. Please allow the installation to proceed until you see the usual Saint Paul College login screen (approximately one to five hours after installation begins)
